2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Originally my film was made with my magazine and poster in mind. This was shown through some of my original recording which, like my poster and magazine, contained many images of Odaa’s Chapel. However, as these shots didn’t quite work with the rest of the trailer I decided against using them, which was probably a bad move. This is because my trailer doesn’t quite fit with my trailer, apart from the title.
However, I feel that my poster and magazine pictures work well together, as both largely feature the same chapel, which is quite recognizable, and from my audience feedback I gathered that there people thought there where some similarities, and reconcilability. However, I gathered that although audiences linked my poster, they felt it had a graphic novel quality to it such as the basic use of colours, and the chosen font.
However, according to my audience, my poster had certain ‘cartoony’ qualities like my poster, like the colour choice and font.
I feel that as my trailer is a ‘teaser’ it would have been the first text to be released, just to build up some hype and make it a recognisable name amongst horror fans. Both posters would have been place much after, in public places such as train stations and on the side of busses, especially school ones, as they seem to often have horror posters, as the 15-18 age group is a large portion of the horror market. This would make it a more recognisable name to audiences, and especially amongst my target audience (15+). The magazine would have been released shortly after, or at a similar time to the poster, just to let people know more about it, so it becomes more that a recognisable name, people actually know something about it.
Although the trailer doesn’t quite fit with the poster and magazine, I think because it is a teaser this isn’t too bad. This is because teaser often aren’t very relevant to the actual movie, or any part of it, it is just to get audiences excited and know the name is being released.
